Barcelona: My Favorite Place

A Christmas trip to Barcelona following my first semester at OU introduced me to a city that captured my heart. Because of my previous experience in highschool taking art history, I was engrossed in the modern architecture of the city, mainly of the work of acclaimed architect Antonio Gaudi.  Moreover, the night life and unique Catalan traditions conveyed a city with a blend of modern and traditional tastes.  Finally, as a huge soccer fan I was amazed by the sight of Camp Nou, the home of Barcelona FC and one of the cathedrals of soccer.

    Barcelona! You are not the first fan of Barcelona in class this semester, Neal... check out Avani's post for some more Barcelona goodness: Avani in Barcelona. And maybe you will want to do a project on Spanish legends or folktales for this class; it is one of the great storytelling traditions of the world... and of course home to Don Quixote also! We don't have a Spanish unit in the UnTextbook, but there are some great Spanish story books at the Freebooakapalooza: Spanish sources at the Freebookapalooza ... that is something you can explore when the actual reading and storytelling get going in Week 2! :-)

    Hi Neal!

    I also visited Barcelona and became amazed by the architecture! Like you, I took art history in high school, and this class allowed me to have a new perspective on art. I noticed that the architecture in Barcelona had a Gothic style with its high buildings and rose stained windows. My family and I went to a local food market as well and visited La Sagrada Familia and Camp Nou! The fruits were fresh and amazing!

    Hi Neal! I have been to Barcelona too! My family and I went on a big trip almost eight years ago (it felt like just yesterday wow) to Europe. In Barcelona I had the best paella ever and still to this day attempt to recreate it. I am getting closer, but I don't know if I will ever get it the same. Your pictures are awesome and I definitely wish the markets here in Norman had all those good looking fruit and vegtables.

    HI Neal,

    I am so jealous you got to o to Barcelona! Weird backstory but I have always wanted to see Barcelona because as a kid i love the movie the cheetah girls and in the movie they travel to barcelona and it was so pretty to me and made me want to visit there. My sister traveled all over Europe and barcelona was one of her favorite places to visit! I agree that barcelona has such amazing architecture! What a good choice!

    Hi there! After reading your introduction, I had to come find the page where you talked about Barcelona because it has always been a dream of mine! I was curious as to how you like the food there? Also, do you have any places you recommend to visit? I am hoping to go there as a graduation trip next summer, but would want some input on the Do's and Don'ts if you know what I mean!

    Barcelona sounds so cool! I think it's really cool you got to take a trip there. I am a big fan of Spanish food and European history and hope I'll get to go myself someday. The pictures you included were really awesome, too. The picture of the La Sagrada Familia is so good it belongs on a postcard!

Week 12 Story: Beth Gellert

There was once a hunter who had a loyal German shepherd named Max that he considered to be his best friend. Now Max was extremely loyal to the hunter, always guarding the hunter and his daughter throughout the night. It was important for Max to do his job as the forest they resided in was full of wolves looking for their next meal.
